In September 2003, Britney Spears came to Korea to publicize her new album of songs. She made an appearance for a press interview at Central City, Banpo-dong, Seoul. Her attire captivated the attention of reporters in an instant. She was in pink-colored hanbok with jokduri (a type of Korean traditional coronet worn by women for special occasions) on her head. Pink is her favorite color.
She was all smiles, as she said, “I have always wanted to pay a visit to Korea. Now, I am here in Seoul. It’s really a beautiful country. I am happy to be here. And the hanbok I wear is simply so beautiful that I feel as if I were a princess.”
The hanbok she wore on that day was the work of Park Sul-nyeo, a well-known hanbok designer. Britney took the hanbok with her when she left the country.

There is another famed star who loves hanbok. In April 2009, Hugh Jackman came to Korea to publicize the film X-Men Origins: Wolverine in which he starred. He said, “My Dad paid visits to Korea frequently on business. When I was young, a Taegeuk flag was hung in my room.”

In addition to this, Jackman showed other special connections and interest in Korea and its culture. In May 2009, Faded Youth Blog, (http://www.fadedyouthblog.com), a U.S. website specializing in information on entertainers, carried a photo of him riding a scooter on a street in New York with his three year-old daughter Ava wearing a pink-colored hanbok chima (skirt). It is said that he was attracted to the color and shape of hanbok and thus bought it for his daughter. Why don’t you experience the joy of finding lovely photos of Ava in hanbok in the article entitled “Hugh is man on the move?”
