  • Membranophones
The membranophones are closely related to the rhythmic cycle called jangdan. The janggo, an hourglass-shaped drum, plays the rhythmic pattern in Hanguk-eumak.
The pyeonjong
The buk, a barrel drum, accentuates the rhythmic cycle. There are three kinds of buk: the pungmul buk used in the farmers' band music; the sori buk used in the pansori (epic vocal genre); and yonggo ("dragon drum") used in the marching band music. The sogo, also called beopgo, is a small hand drum mainly used in the farmers' band music and folk songs. The jwago, a seated drum, punctuates the rhythmic cycle in the court music.
