  • Membranophones
The membranophones are closely related to the rhythmic cycle called jangdan. The janggo, an hourglass-shaped drum, plays the rhythmic pattern in Hanguk-eumak.
The pyeonjong
The buk, a barrel drum, accentuates the rhythmic cycle. There are three kinds of buk; the pungmul buk used in the farmers' band music, and the sori buk used in the pansori (epic vocal genre), and yonggo ("dragon drum") used in the marching band music. The sogo, also called beopgo, is a small hand drum mainly used in the farmers' band music and folk songs. The jwago, a seated drum, punctuates the rhythmic cycle in the court music.
