- The Namdo Food Festival

- The Namdo Food Festival is a leading local traditional food festival held in Jeollanamdo that introduces food of Namdo and prays for the Korean’s health. The event introduces special foods made by chefs representing a total of 22 cities and guns in the province as well as environmental-friendly foods unique to Suncheon.
The annual event is held in four pavilions including the Local Specialties Pavilion and the History of Namdo Fermented Foods Pavilion. In addition, there is also a special pavilion where visitors can taste local traditional liquor.

The Local Specialty Food Pavilion displays dishes prepared by selected chefs using regional specialties from Gurye (wild greens and cucumber), Mokpo (octopus and pleuronectidae), Suncheon (foods offered at Buddhist temples), and Yeosu (gat kimchi). Visitors can enjoy exhibitions, tastings and lectures of Namdo food as well as various events including challenges to the Guinness Book of Records and ‘Food Contests.’ There are also places where visitors can enjoy 60 kinds of local specialties made without using any chemical seasonings. During the festival, a market is held for environmental-friendly agricultural products and local specialties produced in Suncheon.

- Jeonju Bibimbap Festival

To properly experience bibimbap (a bowl of warm white rice topped with wild vegetables and red pepper paste), one should visit the Jeonju Bibimbap Festival. During the festival, the local specialty is served at the Jeonju Hanok Village and designated restaurants. The event is held to uphold the tradition kept in local foods and to globalize Korean foods.
With the Hwasan Sports Park as the main venue, visitors can enjoy exhibitions, tastings, food contests and various relevant performances.
- At the Jeonju Hanok Village, where visitors can smell doenjang, bean paste fermented in jangdok (crock) and enjoy the traditional hanok (Korean style housing), various events are held, such as Tastings of Jeonju Food Handed Down for Thousand Years, Search for Delicacies, Hands-on Experience of Making Kimchi, and a Makgeolli Feast. Food contests such as the ‘World Wide Korean Food Contest’ and ‘Family Food Contest’ are also held.

- Various sites are also provided at the Jeonju Hanok Living Experience Center, such as ‘Selection of the Best Traditional Liquor Brewer’ and ‘Presentation of the Best Traditional Liquor.’
During the event, the city of Jeonju holds an exhibition introducing the culture relevant to local traditional foods and a pavilion promoting businesses that specialize in making the country’s traditional foods, and offers an opportunity for visitors to make Korean foods, including gimjang kimchi, with the help of skillful chefs, at the Jeonju Hanok Village.
